Scraps

Welcome to Dulziandee Design! In today’s adventure, we’re going back in time. Quite a ways back! In my day job, I worked at a Retirement Community. Several years ago, one of our residents placed this book on top of the recycle bin. I’m not sure if the resident had passed away and the family put it there, or if the resident was downsizing. The ladies at the front desk saw the cat on it and knowing I’m a trifle cat crazy, decided that I needed it. We did ask around to make sure it wasn’t left there by mistake, but no one returned for it. Doing a spot of research, come to find out scrap books were far more common than I had thought. They have been used for centuries as keepsakes. In the 1860’s-1900’s it was quite common for children to keep a scrap book of pictures, tickets and other memorabilia. I suspect this scrap book belonged to the resident’s mother. The pictures in it are rather feminine in nature, and the few dates are from the 1870’s and 80’s. A young girl in the 1880s would have been a young woman in the 1900s, having her child – who became our resident. I suspect they held on to this scrap book as a memory of their mother…for well over 100 years. Pretty dang impressive. I have scanned the book to .jpeg and you are more than welcome to the images. Contact me at Dulziandee Design on facebook and I’ll send you the zipped file. Slight caveat; my scanner sees more color that I do! The images are a bit more intense in the scanned file than in real life. Take care, stay healthy! Story of a Scrap book from the 1880’s
